The following is Human Fintech’s analysis

Read the measure before drawing a market conclusion.

The reported measure is the outstanding consumer loan book in Russia. It is not the number of new customers, gross originations or lender revenue. Balances reflect both loans added and loans repaid. An international reader comparing markets needs those distinctions before placing the figure alongside another country’s data.

Coverage matters too: banking-sector data should not be treated as a measure of every non-bank lender. A comparison between countries needs consistent product definitions, reporting periods and institutional coverage. This release provides a Russian market observation; it does not establish a broader recovery in international consumer credit.

Growth can arrive before the credit losses.

The transferable business issue is the lag between origination and observed performance. A lender can add balances quickly by increasing limits or acquiring new customer segments. The eventual loss profile takes longer to emerge, so a growing book may initially look stronger than its newest loans warrant.

For a portfolio review, separate first-time borrowers from repeat customers and compare loans at the same months on book. Acquisition channel and underwriting-policy version help explain changes that an aggregate delinquency ratio can hide. The point is to identify which part of expansion earns an adequate return, rather than reward balance growth in isolation.

Keep country assumptions local.

Funding costs, servicing expenses and collection outcomes belong in a country-specific model. Reusing the same assumptions across markets can make an attractive group forecast depend on a weak local portfolio. Currency and reporting differences should remain visible in any cross-market comparison.

A useful investment or operating review therefore combines the external market signal with internal cohort performance and fully loaded loan economics. The Russian data can start that discussion, but it cannot supply another market’s credit policy or growth target. Those decisions require evidence from the business being assessed.
